Collegiate athletes and experienced trainers who put player development first.
The Sentinels coaching staff combines collegiate playing experience with a shared commitment to youth development. Every coach on our team holds a college degree and understands what it takes to grow both as an athlete and as a person. We coach the whole player.
We believe soccer is a vehicle for growth. Every child who joins Sentinels is met where they are and challenged to become better than they were yesterday. Our coaches are here to nurture confidence, sharpen skill, and build the character that carries into school, family, and every part of life after the whistle.
Development is not one-size-fits-all. A five-year-old learning to trap a ball, a twelve-year-old fighting for a starting spot, and a high schooler chasing a college roster each need a different kind of coaching — but all of them deserve the same care, patience, and belief. That is the Sentinels standard, and every coach on our staff holds themselves to it.
We teach the technical foundations — dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, positioning. We also teach the harder lessons: how to lose, how to lead, how to keep working when it is not easy, and how to lift teammates up on the days they need it most. Those are the skills that outlast any season.
Coach Rick leads the Sentinels coaching program as Director of Coaching and Technical Director. He shapes the training curriculum across all age groups and works directly with players in both team sessions and one-on-one development.
His coaching background includes work with Soquel High JV and Varsity, Santa Cruz Soccer Camp, and Gilroy Soccer League. Coach Rick brings a long-term view to development — building players season by season, not just game by game.

Coach Nolan is a former collegiate soccer athlete and a college graduate. He brings the discipline, tactical awareness, and match-level intensity of the college game to every Sentinels training session.
Nolan works with players across our competitive program and leads private training sessions. Players and parents describe him as patient, technical, and quick to celebrate the small breakthroughs that add up to real growth.
Coach Alex is a former collegiate soccer athlete and a college graduate. Alex trains players with the same standards that shaped their own game at the college level — high work rate, clean technique, and constant learning.
Alex coaches across age groups and specializes in position-specific development. Alex's approach is built on connection first — knowing each player, understanding what motivates them, and pushing them to reach it.
Whether you are joining our competitive program, our rec league, or looking for one-on-one private training, our staff is ready to help your player grow.
